Pure Entertainment? Art criticism at the crossroads

The media landscape is not static. Structural changes in press, radio and TV combined with a more incorporating art definition in changing professional roles make the confines between art criticism, coverage of the arts and entertainment journalism more and more diffuse. Some talk about a development towards superficiality and cultural dispersal. Others see opportunities to reach new readers who do not belong to the traditional target groups of the arts pages

A number of questions arises:
How does criticism differ from other arts journalism? Has the position of the critic changed, and if so how? How does the media development affect the work of the critic? What threats and possibilities come with the new situation?

The magazine Konstperspektiv, the Swedish Art Critics Association and Liljevalchs Konsthall host an open round-table discussion on this exciting subject at Liljevalchs Konsthall (Djurgårdsvägen 60), Monday the 29th of April at 18.
